Haegtessa
I work mostly in a documentary style with elements of portraiture, still life and landscape to aid my documentation. ‘Haegtessa’ is about paganism, in particular, my mother who is a pagan and the differences it comprises of in contrast to the stereotypes. Paganism is often put into a box of crazy old women witches in the woods etc, however, for my mother, it is a nature-based practice dealing with elements of self-healing and progression.
‘Haegtessa is the Anglo Saxon word for hedge-witch, a word my mother relates to greatly. A hedge-witch is someone who practises a nature-based form of pagan magick alone and not belonging to a coven. This project deals with my mother’s everyday life practising paganism in contrast to the stereotypical views of paganism and the negative connotations they old.’
