The Wellcome Trust recently renamed their boardrooms in honour of three remarkable women in an effort to highlight the importance of women in STEM. I was commissioned to illustrate portraits of Rosalind franklin, a chemist whose work was central to understanding the molecular structures of DNA. Nobel Prize winning chemist, Dorothy Hodgkin, a pioneer in the field of X-Ray crystallography and Henrietta Lacks, whose cancer cells are the source of the HeLa cell line, one of the most important cell lines in medical history.
This was a wonderful project to work on as I was afforded the chance to learn about the lives and work of three exceptional people, as well as do my favourite thing in the world, illustrate!
