Ekleipsis
I’m a visual artist and contemporary photographer from the South-West. Due to graduate from Falmouth University this July (2019).
My work is highly research-driven and focuses primarily on (mis)representations of gender. I’m interested in awakening dormant and misogynistic histories as a means to stimulate new conversation and seek to inform the viewer through the unveiling of forgotten narratives.
I previously emailed across my FMP, but also wanted to share a previous project.
Ekleipsis: The Act and Trace of Ritual is a body of work that stems from the ritualistic practice of witchcraft. Similarly to Donna Haraway’s notion of the cyborg (1984), Ekleipsis seeks to mark potential in the fluidity of the witch. Presenting a freedom, expressed visually in the movement of fabric, that surpasses the confines of gender and sexuality. It is, at once, about connecting with “women’s liberation, feminism, the occult, the metaphysical and the natural world.” (Spratt, 2018)

Ekleipsis recently became a physical publication, designed by graphic designer Bethany Rush. A publication that hopes to detail a sensitive retelling and reclamation of the term ‘witch’ within modern feminist critique and conversation.
“Ekleipsis has been designed around the pagan wheel of the year, which is divided into eight celebrations or ‘sabbats’. To reflect this, the photographic content has been shared amongst eight french folds. Each fold is bookended by the flowers and herbs that would decorate the altar of each sabbat and to access the imagery, the french fold must be torn open in the reader’s own act of ritual.” – Bethany Rush, www.bethanyrush.com
