Cavenauts
Cavenauts explores the spiritual narrative attached to journeying within natural spaces in a time defined by technological dominance. Turning the lens beneath our feet and finding muse in the raw material of earth, the work ponders the symbolism of stone in a tech-saturated world, enriched by the mysticism of the artist’s remote Cornish location. Paralleling notions of inner-worlds and the otherworldly, a primal relationship between life and stone is considered, painting an at once emotive and existential portrait of the gigantic spinning rock we find ourselves waking upon.
Bio:
Photographs can seem convincingly real or curiously artificial. The work of Kent-based photographer Georgia Janes finds a pensive balance between the two. Janes is a visual artist harnessing photography’s power to create hybrid worlds between here and there, expanding beyond the realm of traditional photography and into one of playful illusion. Driven by the ever-expanding limits of digital technologies, Janes’ practice embodies an experimental approach favouring rich colour and graphic form, finding inspiration in the post-digital world. By synthesising her interest in philosophical inquiry and aesthetic expression, Janes aims to create photographic works that encourage quiet contemplation of the shifting landscape between technology and art.
