Melancholy by Sea
Melancholy By Sea is a documentary study focusing on my home town of Shoreham. All of these photographs became regular environments in 2015 when I was diagnosed with Depression. This project is shot entirely on a mix of 35mm/120mm film using all mechanical cameras.
Below is a foreword for the book to be released at the end of this year
Growing up here in the early 2000’s was odd. There was always nothing to do for teenagers. The only thing that kept us entertained was stealing, vandalism and sitting in someones house playing games. There was also a sense of small town syndrome where pretty much everyone knew eachother and someones mum always hated you for some reason. This town and its people have taught me so much but it also took a toll on me.
Depression has taught me numerous things in our relationship these four years. She has taught me that nothing matters but at the same time, everything does. She screams in my ear telling me that I should stay in bed and sob my soul out because everyone around me hates me and the world or I will kill me today. She makes me loose interest in my hobbies and friendships I’ve kept for years. Worst of all, she’s there, every waking minute, of every day.
