Turn and Face the Strange
Turn and Face the Strange, represents the tension felt between the artist and her surroundings. The performative movements show heightened moments of fear and uncertainty, captured by the flash and illuminations. The artist visually shows her inner turmoil between wanting to be seen, but also not, which depicts her vulnerability towards the viewer.
Bio
Sophie Preston is a visual artist exploring themes of the uncanny and performance art within her practice. Preston’s work centres on her struggle with anxiety and introversion. Through self-portraiture, Preston places herself within mundane environments to juxtapose between the stillness of the landscapes and her dynamic body positioning, which depicts Preston’s performance to the camera.
